Lata Gwalani is a journalist-turned-author whose stories uncover the extraordinary in the everyday. She spent nine years as a journalist with The Indian Express, Maharashtra Herald, and The Sunday Observer. She also dabbled in film journalism, which sharpened her instinct for narrative and layered characterisation. Later, she studied psychology and moved into corporate training, specialising in Leadership through Emotional Intelligence — work that continues to infuse the emotional depth of her fiction, crafting compelling characters and emotionally layered narratives. She conducts workshops on Leadership, and women-oriented interventions, and has so far conducted over 4000 workshops and trained over 80,000 people. Lata has authored five books: • Incognito – a psychological thriller • Prisoners of Secrets – a relationship drama • Road to Abana – a historical thriller • Not Before You – an ode to the parents of special children • A Tale of Two Kitchens – A memoir/cookbook about mothers, meals and memories Road to Abana is loosely based on the life of her mother-in-law who was displaced during the Partition of India in 1947, and who had to abandon her home in Sind and begin life afresh as a refugee in the newly formed India. Like the thousand other Sindhis who were similarly displaced, her mother-in-law yearned to go back and reclaim the Abana (ancestral home) that she was forced to abandon.
