Alon Raz, born in Tel Aviv, came into a family burdened with a genetic predisposition to obesity. He was a fat child, a fat adolescent, and a fat man. He walked the path of life as an obese person, accumulating experiences and scars concerning his weight. Alon battled his weight throughout his life, sometimes successfully, sometimes less so. There were many years when he shed substantial weight and became a professional athlete competing in the world’s most grueling competitions. He came to understand that all obese people endure the same struggles, difficulties, and challenges. His desire is to bring the issue of obese people to center stage, in the hope that the book will lead to a change in attitudes toward them and a deeper understanding of the issue of excess weight.
